At the west switch of Eisele (formerly Clay), the westbound Zephyr heads west on a green signal. Being the winter season, ridership on Amtrak is down and, as such, the Zephyr only has six Superliners today. A transition sleeper, sleeper, diner, lounge car, and two coaches.

Three units lead up the westbound Denver-Provo as the train passes by the hoppers that have served as a wind break on the inside of the curve for the past 50 years. All of the cars have been covered in graffiti from top to bottom.

This westbound BNSF Denver-Provo is now running (roughly) geographically north as it passes by the signal at the east end of Eisele (former Clay), control point CP DS020. In the distance, you can see North Table Mountain which is on the north side of the town of Golden.

It is fairly common to find five units on BNSF's Denver-Provo manifests and today is no exception. Three units are on the point and a pair of units, both facing west, are bringing up the tail end. The train is not particularly long today at about 4,500 feet.

As BNSF's Denver-Provo turns toward the east portal of Tunnel 1, note the line of asphalt near the top of the frame. This is part of the construction of the new Canyon Pines subdivision. The development covers 180 acres and, when finished, will have about 90 single-family homes running up and over the top of Tunnel 1.
