An SD60M "triclops" sits on the ready track along with a few other older EMD units, waiting to head...somewhere. Not sure where they are going to go.

I was a bit surprised to find this old "triclops" SD60M sitting on the ready track in North Yard. I had heard that UP is slowly clearing out a lot of the units that have been stored in Grand Junction, which is likely where this relic of the 1980s and 1990s came from. Not sure if it is going to head for storage, a rebuild, sale, or the scrapper. Considering a chunk of the long hood behind the dynamic brake fan is missing at the top, I'm guessing the disposition might not be great!

A former Espee GP40-2 and a former Mopac GP38-2 sit on the ready track at North Yard, waiting to head to North Platte, NE. Not sure if they are just going to a 92-day inspection (likely), or if there is some other reason why they are headed that direction.

BNSF's daily "Beer Run" passes by Rennicks (left side of the shot) and UP's North Yard (right side of the shot) on its way to Golden. BNSF's Golden Switch, which works industries between Golden and C&S Junction during the week, has its power taken to the yard in Denver on Saturday for servicing. The power is then returned to Golden on Sundays. Looks like a pair of SD40-2s are the current power for the local.

A pair of units, an SD40N and a GP40N, sit not too far away from the yard office in North Yard. They are likely available to be used for switching North Yard, but currently are just waiting for their next assignment.

A pair of GP38-2s are currently switching cars on the ladder in North Yard. The units are nose-to-nose, which is fine as visibility is not an issue. The units are being remotely controlled by a yard working on the ground, pulling pins and throwing switches.

BNSF's eastbound Provo-Denver manifest was put in the siding for awhile this afternoon as UP had a work window on the main east of Leyden. The crew is short on time, having to make it to the yard by 3:30pm, just one hour from the time of this photo. Fortunately, the maintenance has clear and the train has a signal to proceed east. The crew assured DS-378 that they would have no issue making it to town within the hour.

Just east of the east switch of Leyden, BNSF's Provo-Denver has the typical three units on the point as the train rolls by a small storage shed, painted up like a small little red barn. Clouds are doing some crazy things this afternoon, looking threatening, but never releasing any moisture.

The eastbound Canyon Spirit has emerged from Tunnel 1, and is slowly descending the 2% grade toward the base of Coal Creek Canyon and the numerous S-curves ahead. In the distance, you can see the skyline of downtown Denver, where the train will ultimately stop and allow passengers to detrain.

Unlike the California Zephyr, which is always trying to make track speed in order to stay on schedule, the Canyon Spirit typically runs below track speed, to extend the length of the trip and allow passengers to enjoy the incredible views they've spent a lot of money on to see. Here, the Canyon Spirit is descending from Tunnel 1 at about 15 MPH.

The eastbound Canyon Spirit makes its way across Blue Mountain Drive by the Coal Creek fire station. It is a very pleasant afternoon, despite the overcast skies. Later in the week, the forecast is showing as much as 6-10" of snow might fall!

The eastbound Zephyr encountered an issue on Donner Pass in California the previous day, and had to have a Union Pacific ES44AC added to assist for the remainder of the journey east. The train is crossing over South Boulder Creek just east of Tolland, under mostly cloudy skies.
