I was excited when I got the tip about the MRL unit, but was a little disappointed to find it facing into the train. Still, anything different is welcome on the Moffat, or in the railroad world in general! When almost everything in Colorado is either UP yellow or BNSF orange, an MRL blue SD70ACe is very welcome. While not at the top of my list of favorite diesel locomotives, I do not mind the look of the SD70ACe at this point. The west end of Cliff hugs the north foot of a mountain. As a result, it goes months without direct sunlight and, as a result, the rails also often spend months buried in the snow in the winter months. As you are probably aware, and perhaps have even read here on the site, MRL units have becoming easier to catch outside Montana since BNSF's took over Montana Rail Link at the start of 2024. With the MRL power now officially owned by BNSF, the power has been scattered across the BNSF system. Eventually, it will be repainted in BNSF colors. BNSF's eastbound Provo-Denver manifest has four units on the point as it approaches the grade crossing at Tolland. You can see Tolland Road continuing west by the old yellow and green school house, making its way up to the east portal of the Moffat Tunnel. Indeed, the back half of the train in this shot is still between switches on the main at Rocky. You can see a covered hopper buffer car on the tail end of the train, headed for the transload oil facility at Wellington, UT. A visitor from the north is second out on the train. Of course, in the coming years, that paint scheme will eventually train be changed to the new CPKC scheme after the merger of Canadian Pacific and KCS. Construction on the pedestrian overpass started in 2014, and was completed and opened in 2015. It connects a lot of new apartments and condos on the west side of the tracks with the RTD B and G-Line Commuter tracks on the east side of the tracks. The train is on UP's Main 2 between Prospect Jct and Fox Jct. Between those control points, a distance of about a mile, UP has two main tracks. You can just see Main 1 on the far right side of the shot. The yard tracks are BNSF and part of Rennicks (intermodal) yard. UP 6891 was originally UP 7003, and was one of a handful of AC6000CWs from the mid-90s when 6000 horsepower was a goal UP gave both EMD and GE. The 6000 horsepower units did not work out from either manufacturer, and 4400 horsepower became the standard that still remains as the standard today, roughly 30 years later.
