Lately, BNSF has found a pattern for their Moffat trains that seems to be working for them. Most of their trains have had a trio of units on the point with anywhere from zero to two DPUs on the back. There certainly are exceptions depending on the specific train, but more often than not, this has been the pattern. They've also been keeping their trains relatively short...under about 60 cars...allowing them to maintain track speed. Here, a Provo-Denver is at track speed as it passes through a snowy Leyden.

Since its inception, BNSF has generally preferred GE to EMD. In the last 15 years, BNSF has purchased GE's at a rate of almost 3-to-1. So it is far more common to catch a GE leader on BNSF trains than EMD. So, when an SD70ACe shows up, it is pretty nice to get a few shots.

An eastbound Provo-Denver kicks up some snow as it glides east down the main at Leyden on clear signals. It has been cold all week long - typically February - so not much snow has melted from the heavy snow three days ago.

A good old Colorado snow storm dropped about five inches of snow at Plain overnight, giving way to partly cloudy skies today. Despite some sunlight, the temperature was only 5°F, keeping the snow on the vegetation. BNSF's orange looks great as a trio of GEs lead the Provo-Lincoln through the scene.

Here is something that hasn't been seen in a very, very long time! A Rio Grande GP30 rolling through BNSF's yard! The nose of a GP38-2 is visible to the left and the nose of an ES44AC is visible to the right!

This Provo-Denver is relatively short, with only three engines and 45 cars in tow. It seems that BNSF's Provo-Lincoln manifests are generally longer than the Provo-Denver manifests. The train has a clear signal at the west switch of Leyden here in this February snow storm.

The only DPU on this northbound manifest is facing the "wrong way" (for photography, that is) as it throttles up to help the train make it over the climb up Burke's Hill.

Somehwere at every grade crossing in the United States, you should be able to fine a sign indicating the 800 number to call in the event of an emergency. You can also find a unique ID for the grade crossing as well. Such is the case here at Griffith Street in Louisville, CO.
