As the days gets longer, the sun has been rising earlier, allowing for more light for shots like this one at Leyden. However, in two weeks when Daylight Savings Time starts, this scene will look much different. For now, the Winter Park Express kicks up snow at Leyden as the Denver skyline stands tall in the distance.

An Amtrak California car catches a ride on the westbound Zephyr. Not entirely sure where the car is coming from...it may be coming from Beech Grove, IN, Amtrak's main maintenance facility.

Although the sun is shining bright this morning, plenty of snow is still hanging around, giving the scene a nice powdered donut look as the westbound Zephyr approaches the east portal of Tunnel 1.

It is a clear, crisp morning as the westbound Zephyr rolls west just past the grade crossing at Blue Mountain Road. The hot box detector at milepost 22.6 would reveal that it is a chilly 18°F out this morning.

The last Superliner of the westbound Zephyr rolls away from the grade crossing at Crescent. Love how everything in the scene, including the Superliner itself, just screams cold and winter!

The lead P42DC of the westbound California Zephyr crosses the grade crossing at Crescent. It is one of the few grade crossing anywhere close to Denver that has not yet had crossing arms installed!

It does not get much better than this! Well, at least not if you are a fan of trains and winter. The westbound Zephyr glides west on the main at Crescent as lightly falling snow continues to work at blanketing the scene.
