With the Denver Skyline behind (right side of the picture) the summer Ski Train is moving west. This is not the typical summer Ski Train, however. This train has been chartered for a dinner special that left Union Station around 5:00pm. The train will proceed west to Tabernash, wye, and return back to Denver.

Just west of Tunnel 29, the shortest tunnel in the tunnel district, the Ski Train is passing over South Boulder Creek on the bridge at milepost 36.5.

The Ski Train can actually be seen from the top of Mary Jane at Winter Park through the eye of a 200mm lens. The Ski Train is waiting on the siding at Fraser, along US 40.

The Ski Train has brining passenger here to Winter Park since 1940! After dropping off its skiers, the train is just getting ready to pull away from Winter Park, headed toward Fraser.

On a very frigid evening in February, you can almost imagine this shot to be straight from the Rio Grande era! The eastbound Ski Train met a westbound coal empty here at Plainview. It is probably quite warm inside the California, Utah, and Kansas...the last three cars on the train, respectively.

The Ski Train sits patiently waiting in the siding at Fraser. Around 3:15pm, UP DS-82 will give the Ski Train a green signal east to head back to Winter Park to pick up its passengers.

The sun glistens off the side of the first run of the winter Ski Train for the 2002-03 season. Unfortunately, Amtrak 242 (the normal lead unit for the train) is in the shops. On this morning, UP SD70M 5108 leads the Ski Train west.

A sight that you will very seldomly see. The lead unit of the Ski Train, Amtrak 242, couples onto the front of a work train at Tabernash and is pushing it back out of the way of the wye so the Ski Train can complete its turn-around.

On this particular Saturday, a UP work train was blocking a leg of the wye when the Ski Train was attempting to turn around. The power on the work train was shut off, however, so the lead unit from the Ski Train was cut off to move the work train.

Ever wonder how the summer Ski Train transports 50 or 60 bikes up to Winter Park? Now you know! The bike car has hooks in it (just like any average garage). The bikes are hung on the hooks and held in place with bungee chords from the base.
