In fact, turning in either direction would reveal office buildings as we are right in the middle of Boulder! This northbound double stack is approaching the south end of the Boulder siding. Prior to the installation of this 7,700 foot siding, it was about 60 miles from Broomfield (9,000 feet) to the next siding longer than 4,000 feet. That siding is North Yard located in Fort Collins. On this Friday afternoon, BNSF's daily Denver to Laurel manifest departs north from the main after meeting the Longmont Turn, approaching the south switch on the siding. Such was the case on this Thursday afternoon as an empty BNSF northbound enters the siding at Broomfield. Note the green light visible in the distance. BNSF has installed push-button switches in the yard, making it a lot easier for the crews to throw the switches. It does so over a truly impressive bridge just west of the switch into the yard. Here, an eastbound load crosses the river and enters the yard on a crystal clear, 90°F day.
