About 18 months ago, when railroads could not keep up with all the rail traffic, BNSF leased 100 of these ES44ACs. Now that rail traffic has dropped off, units are going in to storage left and right. I got a heads up from a friend that BNSF's Denver to Provo manifest would be running west with a CREX-leased ES44AC on the point! These leasors showed up on BNSF in 2014 when the railroad was experiencing a power shortage. The train just met the West Local at CP DS007 and is now headed west toward Leyden where it will meet its counterpart and the eastbound California Zephyr. The crew went on duty at 11am, but the train didn't leave Denver until 4:30pm. Now, due to a fair amount of traffic on the Moffat, the train is holding. These interesting (not necessarily colorful, as they are mainly gray) units, leased from CitiRail, are always fun to find on a train. Not sure how much longer their lease will last! Upon delivery, the units were leased out to BNSF. That fact makes this an interesting shot, as this is a CitiRail unit, leased to BNSF, and now being borrowed by UP on an empty oil train!
