Why? About 90 seconds before the train showed up, this who spot was covered in glorious afternoon light! Then, a big fat cloud! Oh well...this is BNSF's Denver-Provo manifest headed west. Note the grade crossing sign along the side of the track: "X/QZ" -- The "QZ" represents "Quite Zone". Trains do not use their horns at Kipling. The will return north on the main and then back into the siding and attach to their train. That will allow them to return to Longmont. Why? The unit number might sound familiar...this was one of the units on the northbound that derailed in June 2008 after hitting a tree stump in the tracks. The plow is based in Alliance, NE, but was moved down to Pueblo in case it was needed after a major Spring blizzard. My understanding is that its services were not ultimately needed.
