The train, which has pretty consistently been seven Superliners since Amtrak went back to its daily schedule, will meet an eastbound BNSF Provo-Denver here and then pass a BNSF Denver-Provo at Plain. Within just a few minutes, the train will be headed the opposite direction on the track higher up in the shot. The Zephyr is also rolling very slow at 10 MPH as there is a slow order around Big Ten Loop due to high winds on this morning. UP's dispatcher is waiting to hear from the BNSF yard master as to whether or not they can take the train. If the wait will be too long, the train can be lined in to the siding at Rocky. The eastbound Zephyr is about to plunge in to the 6.2-mile-long Moffat Tunnel. While the snow at Winter Park is not deep enough to accommodate skiers just yet, more snow is definitely in the forecast and it shouldn't be long before a new ski season kicks off. The Zephyr often will hold here for 10-15 minutes to give passengers a chance to stretch their legs. I could have gotten a shot in Byers Canyon, but it was raining pretty hard there and, after shooting the westbound Zephyr there earlier in the day, I opted to just get ahead and get a shot here, west of Granby. The canyon is inaccessible by car and shots from inside the canyon are rare. Drone technology does help out a bit though, as we can see Tunnels 37 and 36 in the distance. The eastbound Zephyr is just entering the west end of Gore Canyon. Just barely visible at the back end of the S-Curve is Tunnel 38.
