The crew on the train, which started their day on the train at Bond, had to add a unit to the train. This, along with the slow speed of the train headed up grade on the west slope, resulted in the crew being on duty for 11 hours at the time of this picture! This is the first UP oil train on the Moffat since April! The train loaded near Helper, UT and got held up at Bond for multiple hours. There was no rested crew when the train arrived, and then, once a crew was available, another unit needed to be added to the train. Evidence that may be the case showed up on the last day of November when a loaded UP oil train came east off the Moffat. The train started in Helper and took 36 hours to make it to Denver! Note the new construction occurring on the north side of the tracks. Several multi-family homes and a few businesses (including a gas station) are being built here. Other than some graininess, the result was not horrible. The train is more-or-less clear and the ground has a pretty good speed blur to it. The MGJNY, with UP 1996 on the point, spent multiple hours dropping a car in the house track at Rollins. So, by the time it reached Blue Mountain, the lighting was all but gone. Here, the train is crossing Simms Street in Arvada. Simms Street, as with most of the grade crossing in Arvada, is now a quiet zone, meaning trains do not use their horns (unless someone is in the way). The train may have to wait at Tennyson Street or possibly Utah Junction for a bit due to "several moves" that the dispatcher is setting up at Utah Jct. The Zephyr has pretty consistently been running with six Superliners since COVID has hit. Today, however, it has eight cars. The second-to-last car is actually an Amtrak California car, likely being returned to California after a stop at the maintenance shop in Beech Grove, IN. Leyden used to see multiple meets every day. Here on November 5, this is only the third meet at Leyden in the last five days, since the start of the month. With the radical decrease in demand for coal, what little demand there is often runs in blocks on the front of the MGJNY. Such is the case here.
