Up front was an SD75I followed by a C40-8W and a C44-9W. I caught the train coming around Church Ranch Lake, about to pass underneath US-36. However, on this first day of October, this particular train had BNSF 5720 in the lineup. This was one a pre-production GEVO from GE - in fact, this was the eighth-ever ES44AC produced! Every so often, though, you'll get a really unique consist on the point of a train. The last day of summer saw clear skies and temperatures in the 70's and 80's. Two days later, temperatures are in the low 50's and it is raining. The lead unit was BNSF 9798, so I though an SD70MAC would be a nice change of pace. Turns out I doubly surprised as two green and cream SD70MACs were the only power on the train, the Longmont Turn. For a time, BNSF actually painted newly received C44-9Ws in the Warbonnet scheme, before dropping it entirely in favor of the Heritage 2.
