Prior to the Joint Line being operated as the Joint Line (before World War I), the Rio Grande main and the Santa Fe main crossed over one another at this location. It has been rumored that one of the results of the project may be the relcation of the southbound main through a portion of the town. The siding and the main follow completely different terrains that differ in altitude by as much as twenty feet as you can see in this picture. Extra 6311 west (north) and Extra 6575 east (south) struck each other directly underneath the US-36 overpass shown in this image. The crewman on Extra 6311 read the incorrect train orders and the train departed Clear Creek before Extra 6575 had arrived. The resulting explosion melted the bridge!
