This train is slowly crawling past this lake located near US-36. I tried to cut as much of the development out of the shot as possible. This location is not nearly as rural as it was twenty years ago.

A badly faded B40-8W warbonnet and MRL SD40 lead the northbound QDENTAC-09 through Westminster. The doublestack is about to pass underneath 92nd Avenue. Looks like the crew wanted to get some fresh air in the cab!

The southbound Laurel to Denver train is led by two SD40-2s (a yellow bonnet and a green and white BN) as well as a Heritage 2 B40-8W as the train approaches the grade crossing at 72nd Avenue in Westminster, CO. At this point, the crew on board can see the distance signal just east of Federal Blvd.

A long string of well cars sits half-loaded at Rennicks just east of North Yard. The loader in the foreground was sitting, unmoving, at the time of the picture.

The last B-unit that EMD has produced, to the best of my knowledge, was the GP60B. The units were made for the Santa Fe and wore the warbonnet paint scheme. When they first came out, it was not uncommon to see A-B-B-A sets of GP60M's and GP60B's running together. On this day, BNSF 332 - now wearing the Heritage 1 scheme - sits in Denver.

A long BNSF coal load led by an AC4400CW and an SD70MAC slows at a diverging approach signal. The train is about to enter the northern end of BNSF's 38st Street Yard. With both coal mains occupied, this load will go down the main track and tie down in the Lodo Siding on the other side of 23rd Street.

One of BN's various experimental paint schemes included placing the BN herald at the end of the long hood (on the engineers side) followed by "Burlington Northern" spelled out across the long hood. Today, BNSF 3149 still shows signs of this scheme, and is one of the few GP50's left operating on a Class I.

The new, the old, and the...ummm...very old! BNSF 9395 is an SD70ACe delivered to BNSF since May. Behind it is BN 9554, an (unpatched) "green and cream" SD70MAC sent to the BN eleven years earlier in 1995. Sitting, shut down, a few hundered feet behind these two is BNSF 6154. This SD9 was delivered 51 years ago in August 1955 as CBQ 352.

After crossing over the UP Main (the Moffat Tunnel Sub) to the BNSF "New North Main" at Utah Junction, this Stockton to Denver manifest (with a nice warbonnet on the point) passes Rennicks on its way toward BNSF's 31st street yard.

The eastbound Stockton to Denver manifest had six rather colorful units on it! BNSF warbonnet 767 led the train east at Cliff. Four units back was Norfolk Southern SD70M 2585. Afternoon thunderclouds are moving in from the west.

How many trains are in this picture!? The obvious trains is of course the BNSF unit tank train making its way through an S-Curve in Barbara's Gulch on the approach to Rocky. However, did you notice Amtrak 5 heading west through Clay several miles to the west near the top of the picture?

With the obvious exception of coal trains, the Moffat doesn't see many unit trains anymore…and the ones they do see tend to be operated by BNSF! Here, a unit tank train (with various forms of fuel) heads west at Chemical.

BNSF decided to run their remainder of SD9's until they had a "catastrophic" failure. Perhaps BNSF 6154 experienced such a failure as it sits quietly near the roundhouse.
