BNSF 559 (a B40-8W), NS 9655 (a C44-9CW), and BNSF 6354 (an SD40-2) site parallel to each other near the BNSF engine facility in Denver, CO. Some people speculate that BNSF and NS will merge sometime in the near future.

The Cheyenne Local makes its way north through Boulder, a former Santa Fe B40-8W on the point. The Flat Irons can be clearly seen in the background, as the train approaches the Foothills Parkway underpass.

At the BNSF yard in Cheyenne, the yard switcher (a GP35u) was idling away, snow occasionally dropping off the cab. In the background, the Rawhide Power Plant coal empty is proceeding north to the mines in the Powder River Basin.

There are suprisingly large number of ex-BN SD60M's still left in green paint (with the BN "white face"). This SD60M, with tri-window setup, only has a small "BNSF" on the side of the cab.

The most immediate heritage of the BNSF: A former Burlington Northern GP39-2 and a former Santa Fe B23-7 move in parallel, switching in BNSF's 38th street yard in Denver.

The "Beer Run", which runs between Denver and the Coors Factory in Golden, has some interesting power on it right now. First up is this GP60M, with a small "BNSF" patch on the nose.

Not long ago, Burlington Northern used SD9's to switch (or in local service) in almost every yard in the country (or so it seemed). Today, finding an SD9 is rather rare. This BNSF SD9 was switching in BNSF's 38th street yard on a beautiful Sunday morning.

The power being used to switch BNSF's 38th street yard is an ex-BN GP39E and a rare ex-BN SD9.

With a warrant all the way to Utah Jct, the southbound HLAUDEN1-17 is clipping along pretty well at the fill just east of Wadsworth Blvd in Westminster. BNSF 7610, a brand new GEVO (ES44DC) leads the way.

BNSF 7610 has only been out on the road for two week! Here, it is leading a very heavy (11,000+ tons) HLAUDEN1-17 through the S-curve near Burns Jct. The city of Broomfield is busy building a new road paralleling the tracks in the foreground.

North meets south! The southbound STCPDEN3-15 is on the main line ("bottom" track) while the QDENTAC1-19 is on the siding ("top" track). There is an interesting difference in elevation between the siding and the main at Broomfield.

A C44-9CW and two SD40-2's lead up the STCPDEN3-15 on the main at Broomfield. Winter is in full force in the high country in Colorado, covering the divide with a nice blanket of snow. BNSF 4195 will hold the main at Broomfield to wait for a northbound to pull into the clear in the siding.

The QDENTAC1-19 waits on the main track near MP 12. The train will be meeting a southbound at the siding of Broomfield, but will not fit in the siding without blocking a crossing. So, the train is holding short, waiting for the arrival of the southbound. Note the lead unit, BNSF 8292, an SD75I.

BNSF 6948 heads up a single car Boeing train north on the Front Range Sub. This sole SD40-2 took the car all the way from Denver to Cheyenne. Must have been (relatively) easy on the crew!

BNSF 2800, a former GP30 now listed on the roster as a GP39M, leads up a yard transfer that is moving a very long string of intermodal containers from the Rennicks Intermodal Facility (near UP's North Yard) into BNSF's 38th street classification yard.
