Under partly cloudy skies, BNSF 8026 leads a southbound STCPDEN along Valmont Reservoir and the Valmont Power Plant. The train has three classic EMD's (all rated as SD40-2s) and they sounded (and looked) great the 6600 foot long double stack train.

Valmont Power Plant in Boulder receives coal from a joint effort between Union Pacific and BNSF. The coal comes from Union Pacific's North Fork Branch near Grand Junction. Once in Denver, two UP units are left on the train and a BNSF SD70MAC is added. On this day, BN 9556 (in "green and cream") is slowing as it passes along Valmont Reservoir.

Just a few miles south of the siding of Owl Canyon, the MDENLAU-20 is making its way north as it crosses over County Road 7. Summer is still in full swing in Colorado as September is nearing! The white fluffy clouds in the background will soon give way to large thunder clouds, resulting in afternoon showers.

BNSF has been getting a lot of extra "help" from Norfolk Southern lately, it seems. The eastbound MSTODEN-12 made its way east toward Denver through Arvada minutes before sunset on a pleasant August evening. Two Norfolk Southern units trail the leading BNSF C44-9CW.

A unique consist of units leads the northbound MDENSTO-26 at North Yard just north of Fort Collins. Two EMD Oakway SD60s, a patched BNSF SD40-2, an unpatched BN SD60M, and an H2 BNSF C44-9 lead up the train. The train has just been reconnected and is waiting for the air pressure in the brake line to build so they can continue north. Note the freshly repainted Great Western power idling on the left side of the picture.

The HLAUDEN from Friday (5/20) was tied down in the hole at Broomfield, and was still sitting there Saturday afternoon. The power was very unique (and very colorful) with BNSF SD40-2 #7027 in Heritage 1, CSX B36-7 #5867 in Gray, and EMDX GP38-2 #745 in Blue.
