A November snow storm has settled in on the Denver-Metro area overnight and continues this morning. Most of the deciduous trees are still holding onto their leaves, creating an interesting mix of fall colors and white snow. The westbound Zephyr, running right on time, approaches the camera between 68th Avenue and Kipling Street in Arvada, a few miles east of Leyden.

On a snowy day with clouds hanging very low in the sky, the westbound Zephyr approaches the east portal of Tunnel 1. The clouds have actually lifted slightly in the last two hours, and should clear out even more later in the day.

At the west switch of Eisele (Clay), there is a fantastic winter scene as the westbound Zephyr rolls through the OS. The snow is really sticking to the pine trees, subduing the colors. It appears that AMTK 144 has a little bit of damage on its nose.

The westbound Zephyr passes through the first winter scene of the season on the main track at Eisele (Clay). In the background, it almost looks as though there are two tracks climbing up Big Ten Curve. However, what might appear to be tracks on the right is in fact tire tracks in the snow created by MOW vehicles.

The westbound Zephyr knocks down a clear (green) signal at the east end of Eisele (Clay). Right around two inches of snow fell overnight and continues to lightly fall this morning, setting up a great scene for the passengers aboard the Zephyr.

The morning Zephyr is running right on time as it climbs the north side of Big Ten Loop. Roughly two inches of snow fell over the Denver area, marking the first snow fall of the 2024-2025 winter season. Fortunately, temperatures have not fallen too far yet, and it is currently right around 32°F (0°C) out as snow continues to lightly fall.

It is a reasonably pleasant November morning here at C&S Junction as the westbound Zephyr crosses Federal Blvd on Main 2. It is around 50°F outside, and slowly warming up. It may be the last temperate day for awhile as, starting tomorrow, there is at least a 40% chance for snow all the way until next Sunday.

The morning Zephyr passes underneath the signal bridge at C&S Junction. The Zephyr is running right on time as it charges west on Main 3 (changing to Main 2 here at C&S). Four tracks collapse down to just two when heading westbound here at C&S. The four tracks, from left-to-right, are Bypass (Main) 1, Bypass (Main) 2, Main 3, and the North Yard Siding. The two tracks in the foreground, from left-to-right, are Main 1 and Main 2.

The westbound Zephyr is making its scheduled stop at Denver Union Station in a scene that is now an urban jungle, radically different from how it looked 20 years earlier. The Zephyr has received all of its releases and will be ready to pull at its scheduled departure time of 8:46am. Note the A-Line and N-Line commuter trains sitting on the tracks to the left.

Plenty of fall colors to be found here at Blue Mountain Drive, despite the cold winter weather that has blown into the area overnight. Passengers in the two coaches are hopefully enjoying the view as the Zephyr heads away from the camera.

On the first day that truly is starting to have a wintery feel to it, the westbound Zephyr passes through a rather foggy seen at Blue Mountain Drive. A cold front moved in overnight, and the temperature is only 30°F (-1°C) at the moment, with some slight drizzle falling.

AMTK 144 and AMTK 180 lead the westbound Zephyr toward the east portal of Tunnel 1. I am not sure what type of foliage is on the side of the hill, but it makes for a very nice (and rather unique) red color in the fall time.

Fall colors are still apparent in certain parts of the Front Range area here in late October, this tree near the west end of Eisele (Clay) being no exception! The Zephyr is rolling west on the main.
