The siding and the main follow completely different terrains that differ in altitude by as much as twenty feet as you can see in this picture. In addition, these new apartments are quickly being built next ot the tracks. No doubt the future home of people complaining about the noisy trains running next to their house. Extra 6311 west (north) and Extra 6575 east (south) struck each other directly underneath the US-36 overpass shown in this image. The crewman on Extra 6311 read the incorrect train orders and the train departed Clear Creek before Extra 6575 had arrived. The resulting explosion melted the bridge! It was a cold and snowy day in Colorado. The lead unit was a patch Santa Fe SD40-2 and the second unit was a very nice SD75M painted in Warbonnet!
