A loaded BNSF oil train crosses over the 72nd Avenue grade crossing just east of Leyden. This grade crossing will not be around too much longer as a grade separation between the tracks and 72nd Avenue will be coming in the next few years. The City of Arvada and Union Pacific are currently working out the details of the new bridge.

Four units on BNSF's Beer Run are representing three different paint schemes. The SD70ACe is, of course, sporting the New Image scheme. SD70MAC 9709 has the short-lived "green and cream" scheme. The two SD40-2s that will run on the Golden Local are also on the train, one with a New Image and one with the original Heritage scheme. The train is crossing over Clear Creek at C&S Junction.

BNSF's Denver-Provo, consisting almost entirely of tank cars, heads west through Barbara's Gulch toward the Rocky Mountains. If you look closely, you can see an eastbound currently running through Eisele (Clay). The two trains will meet each other at Rocky.

This SD70MAC is actually designated as an SD70MACe by BNSF. Two dozen SD70MACs had some electronic equipment upgraded, were repainted, and received the "e" suffix on the model. Not sure exactly what, electronically, was upgraded. But it is nice seeing the latest scheme on an SD70MAC. The train is pulling by the old "Chem Spur", which hasn't been used in about a decade.

A single SD70MAC brings up the tail end of the Denver-Provo as the train enters Barbara's Gulch, rolling by the oil steel structure in western Arvada. The SD70MAC is sporting the latest paint scheme. That is a little uncommon for SD70MACs, even in 2024. BNSF has spent a lot of time (or money) on repainting these yet. Most still wear the Heritage 2 scheme, or even the old "green and cream" scheme.

BNSF is well known for favoring GE over EMD for the past few decades. The SD70 series (both SD70MACs and SD70ACes) have been the one reprieve for EMD. A trio of SD70ACes (and an ES44AC) lead the westbound Denver-Provo manifest in west Arvada.

BNSF typically runs its manifests on the Moffat in a 3x2 configuration (three units on the point, two DPUs on the end). This particular instance of the train does have five units, but it is setup in a 4x1 configuration.

Longs Peak offers a great backdrop to these Boeing 737 fuselages, which are making their way to Seattle for final assembly. Perhaps, at some point in the future, these very planes will be flying high above Longs Peak!

The dimensions of a 737 just happen to allow for the assembled fuselages to be hauled by rail! The fuselages are assembled in Kansas, and are hauled by rail to the Boeing plant in Seattle. There, assembly will be completed, with the wings and tail being added. Here are four such 737's at Tonville, making their wait toward Seattle.

A pair of C44-9Ws, one BNSF and one Norfolk Southern, lead a Q train that is currently tied down in the siding at Tonville. The eastbound train has four Boeing 737 fuselages on the train today, ahead of a string of intermodal containers.

A pair of BNSF units sit on the siding near the west end of Keensburg. They are likely here so that they can haul Amtrak Superliners back to Denver. The Zephyr struck a semi overnight and crews are currently working to rerail the derailed cars.

An eastbound BNSF (loaded) oil train snakes away from the camera, under the Colorado Highway 93 overpass, into and through Barbara's Gulch. A KCS Retro Belle makes for a nice view of the rear DPU.

An SD70ACe and a KCS AC4400CW bring up the tail end of a loaded BNSF oil train. I love catching as many Retro Belles as possible now that the merger between Kansas City Southern and Canadian Pacific is complete. It is only a matter of time before this KCS paint scheme fades in to history.
