One of only four SD60MACs ever created, the four units wore very unique paint schemes when they were delivered to Burlington Northern. Today, the units still wear (most of) their original paint. A few EMD logos have been added (as BN returned them to EMD). EMDX 9501 is sitting here at the House in Denver, waiting to head north toward Seattle.

Sitting outside of BNSF's house in Denver, this unit is one of only four like it ever built. When first developing AC traction motors, EMD used four SD60M's as prototypes, creating the only SD60MACs ever created. The units were delivered to Burlington Northern as BN 9500 to BN 9503. The units were ultimately returned to EMD and are typically found at the testing facility outside Pueblo. Here, EMDX 9501 is headed north toward the Seattle area for unknown reasons.

These two steam engines - buried in UP's 36th Street Yard - have had quite a trip from Oregon to Denver. They are ultimately headed for the San Louis & Rio Grande in Alamosa. The SLRG will use them on their tourist (passenger) trains. The steam engines original came to Denver via the Moffat, but got held at Winter Park because of clearance problems through the tunnel. So, they went back to Salt Lake and around through Wyoming. Here they sit, waiting to be moved over to North Yard and placed on the MNYPU.

A very late-running Chicago to Denver (ZCHIDEN) navigates through 31st Street on the approach to the 23rd Street diamond. There, the train will make a right-hand turn and head north into Rennicks.

A fairly colorful collection of units on the BNSF ready tracks in town include a Warbonnet SD75I, an Oakway SD60 and a Ferromex ES44DC, along with the normal splattering of Heritage units.

I included this roster shot because this C44-9W recently received BNSF's New Image scheme. I happened to catch this same unit on the Joint Line in January 2006, and it was in the H2 scheme on that day. The unit was involved in a head-on collision (and completely destroyed) in June 2006 and was rebuilt in Mexico in June 2007.

How close is this to bing a shot from 10 or 20 years earlier!? A GP39E, a (very rare) GP10, and a GP38 work the "Salt Mine" yard job at BNSF's 31st Street Yard in Denver.

An Amtrak P42DC sits near the engine house. I'm not entirely sure why it was sitting on BNSF property. Perhaps it was in need of some repair and Amtrak contracted with BNSF to handle the repairs.

A UP yard crew move a set of well cars from UP's North Yard to UP's 36th Street. The fastest way to do this was via Prospect Junction and Union Station. From Union Station, the crew can shove the cars down to 36th Street. Here, the crew was take the wells cars across the diamond at 23rd Street on the Buck Main.

From the Park Avenue overpass, you can see quite a bit of action going on below you at the 23rd Street diamond. BNSF trains headed to or from the Joint Line cross the diamond (on one of the two main tracks). The Buck Main crosses the north end of the Joint Line, connection Union Station with Prospect Junction (and beyond). BNSF also uses the Buck Main to wye power. Such was the case here as two SD40-2s are being wyed so they can be taken to the "house".

This is a unit that you can find in the photo gallery a week ago. However, being one of only five "crew cab" GP50s, it seemed worth while to post another picture of it. The nose on these units was shortened to offer space in the cab for two more crew members.

A peaceful look at some of the power sitting around the engine facility. Looks like BNSF 5396 had some damage repaired recently. The sun really makes the Executive scheme on BNSF 9798 look good...but who the heck left the door open!?

I know this isn't the only picture I have of this unit in the gallery, but this GP10 is one of only a handful left on BNSF's roster. It is a fair bet that it will be retired sooner rather than later, so I grab as many shots of it as I can!

Idling away next to The House, this freshly painted SW1500 shows off its New Image paint scheme. At the time of this image, this was the only SW1500 to receive the New Image scheme.

The MDVSI-09, which has an SD40T-2 in the consist, pulls east past a GP38-2 and an SD70M. The manifest is built in the yard and then shoved back toward Union Station so the power can be put on. Then, once it has permission from the yardmaster, the train pulls out of the yard toward the Limon Sub to head east to Salina, KS.
