UP typically parks power for the locals it runs out of Roydale (such as the LDJ04) on a stub track near the Roydale yard office. Such was the case on this Saturday afternoon. UP 1203 started life as a Kennecott Copper GP39-2 (KCC 782) in January 1977. It 1984, it was sold to Missouri-Kansas-Texas (MKT 383) until it joined UP's roster in 1991. It is still wearing its original UP paint scheme, although it was renumbered from UP 2353 in June 2003.

Sitting in the equipment yard, this SW600 (#15-1, Public Service of Colorado) normally works at the Cherokee power plant off the Belt Industrial Lead near York Street. The unit shove coal trains through the rotary tilt. Apparently it is having some problems though and has been (temporarily) replaced by a UP unit. The switcher is seen here sitting in the Equipment Yard at the same place where UP 1989 was unveiled in June 2006!

Here's a Tunnel Motor that has seen better days! UP 9872 started life as DRGW 5407 many years ago. Now, the "Rio Grande" on the conductors side of the long hood is almost gone (and it is completely gone on the right side). The unit had been sitting in Burnham for the past four months and was seen here at the 36th Street Yard. The writing on the fuel tank says "Running from the answer brings us no closer to the truth".

It seems that BNSF has been running more AC4400CW units on coal train these days. Case-in-point is this southbound coal load just getting ready to leave the yard in Denver and head for the Joint Line. They only have 111 such units on the roster, but they have spending a lot of time on PRB coal trains!

Of the 279 AC4400CW's originally purchased by Southern Pacific, only 17 are left unpatched (as of this picture). It is becoming increasingly hard to find one, and I was lucky to have stumbled across SP 319 as the second unit on the CNANX-01. The train came from the North Antelope Mine and is now waiting for its crew near Fox Junction. It is ultimately headed for the Nixon power plant near Colorado Springs.

I was hoping that I might see my first isolated-cab SD70ACe, but alas, this ACE came from one of the first runs for BNSF. The newer units have isolated cabs similar to the SD70MAC's from ten year ago. I have heard some crew members say that the cabs of the non-isolated SD70ACe's can be louder than SD40-2's!
