The cab of the GP30 is without a doubt one of my favorites of all time. The round shape gave it such a distinctive look. So thrilled that DRGW 3006 will be preserved at the Forney Museum rather than be scrapped. That means two Rio Grande GP30s have been saved. The other being DRGW 3011 which is now at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden.

Graffiti litters the conductor's side of DRGW 3006 as the GP30 backs around the Denargo Wye. Soon, the unit will enter in to the Forney Museum and out of the sunlight, possibly for good. But, thank goodness, it will be preserved!

The setting sun reflects off the long hood of DRGW 3006 as it backs around the Denargo Wye from BNSF's 31st Street Yard over to UP's 36th Street Yard.

In order to get to the Forney Museum, this UP special had to pull into BNSF's yard in order to get to the Denargo Wye. The Denargo Wye is a transfer track between BNSF's 31st Street Yard and UP's 36th Street Yard. The track is visible in the foreground.

In order to align some switches, this UP special stopped at the perfect spot to get a shot of this steam crane on the far side of the yard!

Here is something that hasn't been seen in a very, very long time! A Rio Grande GP30 rolling through BNSF's yard! The nose of a GP38-2 is visible to the left and the nose of an ES44AC is visible to the right!

The average motorist no doubt was unaware of the awesome event they were witnessing as this steam crane rolls across Shoshone Street, coming out of Burnham for the last time.

For the first time in two decades, DRGW 3006 is rolling across grade crossing as a UP special pulls it out of Burnham. Here, the unit is rolling across Shoshone Street, not too far from the Auraria Campus.

At least three pieces of old Rio Grande equipment will be salvaged from Burnham. The rest may be torched and scrapped, but DRGW 3006, DRGW 01447, and this Steam Crane will all find homes and will be preserved for the future!

This old Rio Grande steam crane rolls slowly out of Burnham as a special moves toward Walnut street and Main 2. The crane will be temporarily kept at the Forney Museum until it can be moved to Granby!

Just before 4:20pm on February 17, 2018, DRGW 3006 was the last engine to leave the property of Burnham! Seems entirely appropriate that a Rio Grande GP30 would be the final unit to leave the close yard.

Hard to believe that it has already been two years since Burnham closed it doors for good. Virtually all the rail has been removed at this point in 2018. In addition, a lot of asbestos removal has taken place. The turntable and the transfer table have both be auctioned off. No doubt it won't be much longer that the buildings themselves will come down. In a few more years, this will probably be a but of condos!
