It is a perfect, picturesque morning in Arvada a few days in to summer as BNSF's Provo-Denver rolls east towards the crossing at Simms Street. BNSF manifest are now the only manifests that use the former Grande between Denver and Salt Lake. UP's manifest traffic between the two cities now entirely goes via the Overland Route in Wyoming.

The eastbound Provo-Denver passes by a "yellow board" east of Leyden on the approach to Simms Street. If you are unfamiliar with yellow boards like this one, they are an indication to trains that there is a speed restriction in place. Typically, these speed restrictions are expected to be in place for days or even weeks if MOW takes the time to put up the boards. In this case, this is a 40 MPH speed restriction.

Despite having four units, this Provo-Denver is actually pretty darn short! Only 21 cars making up the train today, including a box car, three covered hoppers, an empty centerbeam, and 16 tank cars. The train is paralleling CO-72 and Welton Reservoir. This Reservoir was built in 2002 and started filling in 2003. It's primary use is for drinking water.

Following on the heals of UP's only-remaining eastbound manifest is this BNSF Provo-Denver. The MGJNY is meeting the Zephyr at Rocky and the Provo-Denver here will be taking the siding at Eisele (Clay) to meeting the Zephyr. It is currently snaking its way through the S-Curves at the base of Coal Creek Canyon, on the approach to Blue Mountain Road.

A pair of manned SD70ACes help shove on the back of this eastbound coal train as it leaves the Valley Sub behind and starts on the climb up the Angora Sub toward Alliance. The sole DPU on this train is an SD70MAC. A bit of a special catch these days as the majority of SD70MACs are currently in storage around BNSF's system.
