It has been a few years since Oil Mesa moved out of Arvada, leaving no active business on Chem Spur. This week, with no active future in site for the little spur, UP removed the frog from the spur to give a smoother ride to mainline trains!

This westbound BNSF manifest had two units that are rather rare sites for the Moffat! In addition to a Warbonnet on the head end, this Kansas City Southern de Mexico ES44AC was one of two DPUs on the tail end. KCS units are rare enough in Colorado, but KCSdM units even more so!

I don't generally go for roster shots from the rear quarter of a unit. Then again, it isn't particularly common to find a Warbonnet on the moffat these days! BNSF 697 was the third of four units leading the westbond Denver-Provo.

It is interesting how some Warbonnets have near-pristine paint after 25 years and others, like this one, are badly faded. Units like this have picked up the nickname "Pinkbonnet" amongst railfan as the red really has faded in to more of a pink.

After spending nearly 12 hours in the siding at Leyden (for reasons unknown to me), this Denver-Provo finally has a fresh crew and is headed west. The crew onboard is actually a Denver-based crew. BNSF is sending a crew out of Grand Junction meet the train further west.

My personal favorite engine from the late 1990s and early 2000s would have to be EMDs SD70M/SD70MAC. UP 4424, which happens to be on BNSF's Provo-Denver on this day, was one of 1000 SD70Ms originally ordered by Union Pacific. This SD70M will turn 17 this year. It was originally delivered to UP on July 18, 2001.

Couldn't help but grab a roster shot of a Warbonnet on the point of BNSF's Provo-Denver...particularly a Warbonnet in such great shape as BNSF 786!

A lot of the remaining Warbonnets in the world are oftentimes referred to as "Pinkbonnets" because the paint has faded so badly over the past 25 years. However, there are still some Warbonnets out there whose paint is darn near perfect. Case-in-point is BNSF 786, leading the Provo-Denver during the first full week of March 2018.

In the early 1990s, Santa Fe decided to resurrect the Warbonnet paint scheme and ordered some C44-9Ws, SD75Ms, and GP60s in the classic silver and red scheme. How great would it be if BNSF decided to do another round of Warbonnet units? While that is unlikely to happen, at least it is still possible to catch an occasional Warbonnet such as on this day as one leads the Provo-Denver.

A sight that is becoming less and less common! A Warbonnet leads an eastbound Provo-Denver out of Barbara's Gulch between Rocky and Leyden.

The two P42DCs that have been used on the Winter Park Express thus far in the season (AMTK 156 "Bloody Nose" and AMTK 193) were both due to their 92-day mechanical inspections and had to return to Chicago. A pair of relief P42s were sent in to power the Ski Train by the Amtrak power desk!

The Winter Park Express makes its third and final Friday trip for the 2018 ski season. This year, it ran on the first Friday in January, February, and March. The Denver skyline stands tall in the distance. You might also note the Arvada water tower just below the skyline.

The third UP coal train in the last 24 hours (two loads yesterday and this empty this morning) left Denver shortly after the California Zephyr. The train rolls past the neighborhood of Leyden Rock.

Four units on BNSF's Provo-Lincoln represent power from the 1990s (a C44-9W), the 2000s (two ES44C4), and the 2010s (an ET44C4). The train is just west of Leyden, running parallel to CO-72 on the far side of the tracks and the neighborhood of Leyden Rock on this side of the tracks.
