Although nobody is out on the platform, several people are in the Kansas as the Ski Train head west past one of the few remaining signals from the days of the Rio Grande.

Approach a green signal at the east switch of Leyden, the Ski Train is running about fifteen minutes late due a late arrival from Amtrak that blocked the Ski Train's departure.

If you look, you can just see the Denver skyline in the distance on a cloudy July morning. Amtrak 5 heads west pass the new housing development Alkire Estates.

UP 5245 is a very special GP40-2. At the time of the picture, it was one of the few GP40-2's that hadn't been moved to the 1300-1500 number range. It is also the first Rio Grande unit to be patched and painted in UP colors. Until 1997, this was DRGW 3122! Note the plates on the nose where the MARS and class lights were once located…

After picking up some covered hoppers, and five bad order (uncovered) hoppers, the Rocky Local heads slowly east out of Leyden. The bad order hoppers had the train restricted to 20 MPH for its trip east.

The California Zephyr (Number 5) had two private cars hanging out on the back of it as it headed west out of Denver. The first car is an ex-CB&Q Zephyr Dome Chair Car, now labeled for Northern Pacific. The second is labeled for the Louisville & Nashville.

On a rare foggy morning in the Denver-Metro area, the Ski Train makes a Thursday run west on the Moffat. The train has just passed the grade crossing at 72nd Avenue and is approaching the crossing at Simms Street.

In this timed exposure shot (30 seconds), the crossing gates at Leyden go up after the Ski Train passes while the crossing gates at Simms (next crossing to the east) go down as the Ski Train approaches.

On the second run of the 2006 season, the Ski Train passes a pasture of horses looking for breakfast just west of Leyden. The horses clearly do not care that any train, let alone the Ski Train, is passing by!

The American Orient Express is set to come out of Denver on this morning to head west to San Francisco. Originally, the MNYRO-09 was going to hold at Leyden to let the AOE pass. However, as the train approached the west end of Leyden, they got a green signal. The train was taken to Clay and a coal empty was released ahead of the the AOE. The coal train took the siding at Leyden, and the AOE got delayed!
