At the time of the picture, it was one of the few GP40-2's that hadn't been moved to the 1300-1500 number range. It is also the first Rio Grande unit to be patched and painted in UP colors. Originally, the MNYRO-09 was going to hold at Leyden to let the AOE pass. However, as the train approached the west end of Leyden, they got a green signal. The train was taken to Clay and a coal empty was released ahead of the the AOE. The coal train took the siding at Leyden, and the AOE got delayed!
