This is a very interesting picture! While the conductor on the Limon Local works to tie on a FRED (or End of Train device) to what will become the last car of the local, four random guys are walking between yard tracks! They are carrying backpacks, stepladders, and bottles of water. Were they just in the midst of a little graffiti work? I cannot say for sure, but it was quite odd to see! They continued walking west, eventually leaving UP property.

The crew of the Limon Local goes on duty at 12:00 (noon) on Sunday afternoons. After arriving at North Yard and getting some things ready to go, the crew is on UP 6168, which will be the leader for the eastbound local. The train is waiting for the local at Stapleton, doubled over on two tracks. Today, an LTEX GP38-2 joins the train to be delivered at a rail park out near Bennett, CO.

Union Pacific has (or has had) a lot of C44-9Ws in long term storage around the system. UP definitely prefers AC powered units to DC powered units, so they have contracted with Wabtec to rebuild a lot of the older DC units into AC units. UP 9823 is a great example! It was originally CNW 8719, delivered in May 1994. It has now been rebuilt into a C44ACM.

A close up shot of MRLX 1659 sitting in North Yard. The car was originally built in 1950 by Pullman-Standard for the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway. The C&O ordered 284 streamlined cars from Pullman-Standard in 1946 (later reduced to 185 cars), and this was part of that order. After the C&O, the car spent time on the rosters of the Seaboard Coast Line, Chicago & North Western, Southern Pacific, and Nacionales de Mexico, before landing on the roster of Mid America Rail Car Leasing. It is rumored that it is now headed for a museum in Illinois.

Earlier in the day, I got a shot of this Mid America Rail Car Leasing (MRLX) passenger car in North Yard. Later in the day, the sun had moved to the west side, so I decided to go back for some better shots. The car is sitting on Track 22, waiting to be taken to North Platte, NE, and eventually, a railroad museum in Illinois.
