This is the new south switch for the siding of Broomfield after the north end was extended roughly 2,000 feet to the north. Broomfield previously had two grade crossing within the siding. Rio Grande's paint scheme looked mighty fine among the changing aspens. Nearly three decades after the end of Rio Grande, a BNSF manifest pulls down the main at Tolland. At just over 3,000 feet in length, the train is not particularly long compared to other trains on the Moffat. The second unit is sometimes colloquially referred to as a "Goat Boat". The "goat" portion of the term comes first from the Great Northern Railway, a predecessor of BNSF (and Burlington Northern). The Great Northern used a goat in its logo and had a paint scheme very similar to the "Heritage" paint scheme worn by this second unit. At least, I missed that era as far as photography goes. I still remember train chasing with my dad. I'd have to say that the C44-9W was the replacement for the C30-7, as far as its popularity goes, with railroads in the 1990s and early 2000s. While that era is also on its way out, you can still find plenty of "Crash-9s", as they are sometimes (unaffectionately) referred to, on BNSF trains.
