There is also a coal load on Coal 1 and a grain train on Coal 2, both waiting for crews so they can head south. These three tracks (the main and the two coal tracks) are all CTC right now, controlled by the Brush Sub Dispatcher. This is the signal that protects the north departure from North Yard toward either the Moffat or the Belt Line. In this case, UP 8200 is waiting for a signal to head on to the Belt Line and out to Hazeltine where it will pick up a string of empty auto racks. A crew works to unload some containers off a train as a baretable (empty well cars) train arrives, led by a BNSF C44-9W. Indeed, the truck from one of the passengers cars has been removed from the car itself. There are several strings of UP units that are currently in long term storage in the yard, include many SD70Ms and C44-9Ws. It then went to the Rio Grande, followed by Southern Pacific, and now, Union Pacific. There are around 25 yard tracks in North Yard. As you can see, there are cars on most of the tracks, although many of the tracks are not particularly full. If you note the light blue building in the distance (with one white door and one blue door)...this was the car repair facility (called the RIP facility - Repair In Place). On December 5, 2023, UP management decided to close the shop. 13 car repairmen were immediately laid off and escorted off the property! No more car repair facilities in Denver. The power is currently the bridge that crosses over the South Platte river as it backs up with a string of double stacks.
