And I don't know that I've every (personally) seen two B40-8W's working together on the Front Range Sub before. UP hauls the coal from the mines in the Colorado high country down to Denver, where the train is turned over to BNSF. BNSF takes the train to Boulder via the Front Range Sub and delivers the loaded hoppers to the power plant. On this particular afternoon, two B40-8W's switch some cars around at the plant. The MOW is holding the main track while this BNSF westbound makes its way into the siding using plenty of "bell and whistle" to make sure the maintenance crews are safely off the tracks. No, not a new style of convertible engine...about a week before this picture was taken, several tank cars got away from a switch job in Rennicks yard and rolled back to the 38th street yard. The Salt Mine (switch job) was working the yard track that the tanks went down. BNSF 1532 here was one of the two units used for power. The green season typically lasts for a few weeks in May (maybe June), but things get brown pretty fast as summers tend to be dry. The train just received a fresh crew and is moving north through Yard Limits. About a half mile ahead, the train will re-enter CTC and accelerate north toward the Brush Sub.
