First off, you can clearly see the unique setup of the Broomfield siding here as the mainline and siding are actually on different grades. The coal empty would normally run up the Brush Sub in northeast Colorado, but track work caused a reroute up the Front Range Sub. The line above originates to the north (right) at Sand Creek off BNSF's Brush Sub. It is an industrial lead track that services several industries northeast of I-70 and Colorado Blvd. The lower track was once the CRIP's (Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific) line into town to connect with the Rio Grande's Belt Line. Indeed, these were some of the first units to fall of Rio Grande's roster toward the end of its life in the mid-to-late 1980's.
