In mid-2018, Amtrak executives had said that no long distance Amtrak trains would run over any stretch of track that did not have Positive Train Control (PTC) implemented. Fortunately, they backed down on that as several train, including the Zephyr, would have been impacted. Last Wednesday, the final MNYRO left North Yard, running across the Grande to Roper in Salt Lake City. The MNYRO usually carried a cut of cars for Grand Junction. With UP stopping the MNYRO (and MRONY), they have started an MNYGJ (and MGJNY) three times a week to move cars headed to or from Grand Junction. Note UP 1996 is second in the head end consist. Construction has now completed and the crane is off to its next assignment. While I do not know what that assignment is, I do know that it will be in Trenton, MO.
