The Rocky Local has had to switch around as many as 75 cars lately at Rocky Flats. As a result, four GP40-2's currently work the local west out of Denver. On this day, DRGW 3126 was in the lead with a COMPLETE light package (MARS light and Class lights).

DRGW GP40-2 #3118 is the second of four units on the Rocky Local. The train is currently backing up (left to right in the picture) across Colorado Highway 72. DRGW 3118 has unforunately been "tagged" with some graffiti, but the good guys at Burnham tried to clean as much off as possible.

One final shot of the work train sitting on the house track at Plain. A shot that could actually be from 1990! Rainbow cut and the flat irons of the Front Range sit in the early morning light.

The Colorado Springs switcher sits outside the Springs depot. UP 5245 is a special GP40-2. It was the FIRST Rio Grande unit ever repainted. This is formerly DRGW 3122, which was repainted in mid-1997.

The Rocky Mountains protrude in the background behind Colorado highway 93 and the Rocky Local. The local is waiting for freight traffic on the mainline to clear before entering the main itself.

3114 has seen better days. Graffiti covers the large lettering on the engineers side of the unit. It also appears that the number board on the conductors side may have been broken out and hastily replaced. At least both units are still unpatched and operating!

Not many people have seen the Ft Collins local and as a bonus, the day I chased it, it had three unpatched GP40's. The second GP40 was DRGW 3126. The train is crossing over the Poudre River.
