A 6,000-foot manifest is holding on the main track, getting ready to continue east on a clear (green) signal at the east end. The westbound Winter Park Express just called a Diverging Approach (red over yellow) as it enters in to the siding at Eisele (Clay) to met a UP eastbound manifest holding on the main. The Winter Park Express is climbing out of Rocky and will wrap around Big Ten, entering the siding at Eisele (Clay) to meet the manifest. The manifest has 101 cars and will not fit between switches, so the Winter Park Express will briefly have to stop to wait for it to clear the west switch. The train just passed the high/wide detector at MP 8.4. The detector specifically checks to see if anything is sticking off the side or if there is a car that is too high to fit through the tunnels in the tunnel district. If something is sticking out, it'll break the wire on the detector and inform the dispatcher (and the train, via radio). No problems this morning though! A pair of P42DCs pull the five-car Winter Park Express toward the grade crossing at Blue Mountain Drive. It departed Chicago nearly five hours late the previous day, and departed Denver just over five hours late today. Here, clouds are keeping the train in shadows as it leaves west out of Leyden. The train departed Emeryville, CA almost 10 hours late, and lost more time enroute. The train is trying to make up time as best it can, moving along at track speed as it passes by the frozen pond. It is just east of the grade crossing at Kipling Street in Arvada, and the overcast skies still reflect some great colors about 10 minutes after sunrise. Trying to make up time, the train is moving at track speed parallel to Oberon Road in Arvada. Oberon Lake #1 is visible on the opposite side of the tracks. The train is crossing 66th Avenue in Arvada, about 10 miles west of Union Station, hidden amidst the skyline in the distance.
