A different perspective of a southbound at Skyview Lane, north of Larkspur. I-25 fairly closely parallels Main 1 between Castle Rock and Skyview Lane, whereas Main 2 is much farther to the east, and much harder to get pictures of! No northbounds at the moment, but you can see the rails of Main 2 in the foreground.

From a slightly elevated perch, the rock from which the town of Castle Rock gets its name is clearly visible to the right. Construction on adding a new toll lane in both directions of I-25 continue to progress.

The minor changes in grade are apparent on Main 1, south of Castle Rock. However, the predominate grade is still a step one, meaning the four units on this southbound coal load (two on the point, two on the rear) are all in Run 8 and working as hard as they can to keep the 124-car coal train rolling south.

An SD70ACe leads a southbound coal around the bend on Main 1 toward downtown Sedalia. The town of Sedalia would be a grea one to live in as a railfan as downtown is sandwiched by the Joint Line. Main 1 on the south side of downtown and Main 2 on the north side.

On the northern edge of the town of Louviers, which is located between Littleton and Sedalia, a southbound BNSF coal load grinds its way south on Main 1 on a beautiful May morning.

The cab of BNSF 9135 is currently empty! The crew brought this coal load to a stop here at Rocky nearly four hours earlier, before sunrise. The train was tied down, the derail at the east end of the siding was set, and the crew was picked up. Not sure if there wasn't a rested crew available to take the train to town in the pre-dawn hours, or if the yard said the train couldn't come in yet. Either way, was happy to find it still sitting out at Rocky.

It's been awhile since one of these has run on the Moffat, but overnight, a BNSF coal load (from Utah) descended the front range and parked in the hole at Rocky. The all-EMD trio on the head end was a welcome site!

Passing the east switch of the House Track on the siding at Rocky, this train is slowing to a stop in order to wait for a recrew and space in the yard. The elephant-style power on the head end is a good representation of power over the last few decades with a C44-9W, an ET44C4, and an ES44C4.

An eastbound BNSF manifest snakes its way through Little Ten Curve on the siding at Rocky. The train will be coming to a stop at the east end. Not to wait for a westbound, but to wait for a recrew! The yard did not have space for the train, so it will wait at Rocky for a few hours.

An eastbound BNSF Provo to Denver wraps around Big Ten Loop as it comes out of Eisele (Clay). The train has a trio of GEs on the point and two more DPU'd on the tail end, visible near the middle of the shot.

As is typical on BNSF manifests on the Moffat these days, this eastbound is composed mainly of tank cars. You might even mistake this train (at first glance) as a unit oil train. However, the lack of a buffer car between the power and the first tank car indicates this is not a unit oil train. Note the hawk hanging out in the tree off to the left.

After meeting the Zephyr at Rocky, this eastbound BNSF Provo-Denver rolls on a clear signals on the main at Leyden. A hawk hangs out in the tree to the left, indifferent to the train and likely looking for some breakfast.

It's been a couple of years since I've seen one of these! A GP60M (now a GP60M-3 after a rebuild) was the third unit on this Provo-Denver. While I do not know for sure, I suspect this unit may have been used in switching either in Grand Junction or Provo. It is likely going to Denver to undergo a 92-day inspection.

Headed east on an Approach Diverging signal (yellow over yellow), this Provo-Denver is paralleling Oberon Road and approaching the Carr Street grade crossing in Arvada. This is the first eastbound on the Moffat since yesterday's eastbound California Zephyr, nearly 22 hours ago!

After stopping for about 15 minutes at Leyden, DS-80 got a signal for this BNSF manifest to continue east through Arvada. The train will have to stop again at C&S Junction to wait for the yard to be ready to take the train.
