The lease on this quartet of GMTX GP38-2 units has expired. With the economy being in a major slump right now, UP had no need to extend the lease, so they are being returned to GATX Rail Locomotive Group.

I've always been a fan of the blue paint scheme used on GATX leasers. With the decrease in rail traffic (and, consequently, the decrease in power demands), this unit is DIC (Dead In Consist) on a light power move destined for Grand Junction. There, it will sit until such time as it is needed in the future.

Another leased unit returns to Denver from Grand Junction. After so many units (including leasers) have been moved from Denver to Grand Junction, it was interesting to see this GP38-2 on its way back. Whatever the reason, I always enjoying seeing one of these blue units.

UP has a lot of leased power - particularly GP40-2s and GP38-2s - that it has used for switching in yards. One such example is this colorful GATX GP38-2. However, it might be a little while before this guy is doing any switching! It is on its way for storage in Grand Junction.

A pair of leaser GP38-2s sit idling at Roydale on UP's Limon Sub. Nothing to switch at the moment, so these good looking blue units are just hanging out, letting the snow melt off of them.

Here is an interesting lashup for ya! On one hand we have a newly revamped GP38-2 wearing a fresh coat of blue and white GATX leasing paint. On the other hand, we have a nearly pristine (former) Cotton Belt GP40-2. Gray and blue, what do you think? These units are just one set of switchers based out of Roydale on UP's Limon Subdivision.

Got the blues? So does this freshly refurbished GATX Rail Group GP38-2! GMTX 2678 is one of two leased GP38-2's roaming around in the Denver area on UP right now. The other is sister unit GMTX 2679, looking just as sharp!

Not very often you come across a leasing company with a locomotive as freshly painted as this one! This particular GP38-3 is a rebuild of a GP38-2. Until recently, it wore a similar blue paint scheme, but was owned by EMD Leasing (EMDX). The unit was delivered to Missouri-Kansas-Texas as MKT 185.
