A pair of Canadian Pacific units (an ES44AC and a AC4400CWM) are on this eastbound BNSF Q-train, stopping in the siding at Tonville. The CP paint scheme is, of course, one that will be disappearing in the months and years to come after the merger of Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern, creating CPKC.

Sunset is not far off as BNSF's Z-train streaks by two Boeing fuselages that are currently in the siding at Tonville. Once the Z-train, which is clipping along at 50+ MPH, clears the east switch, the Q-train will get a light to proceed east.

Two of the highest priority trains that BNSF runs on the Brush Sub meet at the siding of Tonville. The train on the main is the ZCHIDEN, which is the highest priority train that BNSF has in the state of Colorado. So, no surprise that the Q-train is the train in the siding.

An eastbound BNSF Q-train is in the siding at Tonville, meeting BNSF's westbound ZCHIDEN (Z-train from Chicago, IL to Denver, CO). The Z-train largely consists of JB Hunt containers, and is the hottest train that BNSF runs in Colorado.

A brand new Boeing 737-8 MAX sits on on a flat car (without its wings, of course) on an eastbound Q-train in the siding at Tonville. The fuselage is headed to the Boeing assembly plant at Renton, southeast of Seattle, for final assembly. Interestingly, in this shot, an American Airlines plane is on final approach at Denver International Airport. It was too far away to identify, but if it is a 737, there is a good chance its fuselage may have once been on a train, right here at Tonville as well!

After the evening Zephyr overtook this Q-train here at Tonville, the Q-train still has to wait a little bit longer as the Zephyr is meeting a Z-train at Hudson, the next siding to the east.

BNSF's hottest train (in Colorado) is the Z-train between Chicago and Denver (and vice versa in the morning). Here, the Denver-bound Z-train is moving through Brush at around 50 MPH. The train is currently at the far west end of the Akron Subdivision, which is about to join with the Brush Subdivision, the track to the left.

An afternoon thunderstorm has moved through Brush and is now headed toward Sterling. Meanwhile, a westbound unit oil train, which departed Sterling about an hour ago, is pulling toward a red signal at Brush. The train will have to wait here for the hottest train in Colorado, BNSF's ZCHIDEN (Z-train from Chicago, IL to Denver, CO).

BNSF runs a local out of Brush, CO, and the power on that local (currently just being stored as the local is not running today, Memorial Day) is an GP60M and a GP38-3 (former GP35). In fact, this is the first GP60M that I have shot in 17 years! Not since 2009 have I managed to catch one.

A pair of ES44ACs lead a southbound BNSF coal load by an irrigation pond in northeast Colorado on the Angora Subdivision. There was a little breeze, creating ripples in the pond, disrupting what would have otherwise been the perfect reflection shot. Ripples or not, this might have been my favorite shot of the day.

Just north of the siding of Lorenzo, a northbound BNSF coal empty has just a single SD70ACe on the point of the train as it passes by a farmer working in the field.

BNSF 6159 and BNSF 9298 lead BNSF's northbound Denver-Laurel (HDENLAU) this morning. The train is passing by Church Ranch "Lake", which dried up years ago and has really just been a field for quite some time. It is an overcast day ahead of a fairly substantial storm moving into the area.

A pair of units lead a 8,700-foot Denver-Laurel manifest through Westminster on BNSF's Front Range Sub. The train just passed through a Form B. You can see the "yellow/red" board on the side of the track, which indicates the Form B starts a mile to the south.

Yard Shots BNSF
Denver's rail intermodal scene is pretty small compared to markets like LA or Chicago. Rennicks Yard represents BNSF's entire intermodal presence in Denver. Granted, it is not an insignificant yard, seen here form the north end. A lot of JB Hunt (and other) trailers flow through here on a weekly basis.

Yard Shots BNSF
BNSF 6159 leads today's HDENLAU, sitting on BNSF's New North Main, waiting for a UP manifest to enter the yard from the Belt Industrial Lead. UP 7389 is leading that train coming into the yard, a few yard tracks deep in North Yard in the background.
