One such reroute - headed for the Coal Creek Mine in Wyoming - passes by the station sign at Broomfield on the main track. It is all because of Nickel Street, which connects two parts of Broomfield together. Here, a Brownville, TX to Laurel, MT manifest has the crossing cut on the main track on the left and the Tacoma, WA to Denver, CO Q-train has the crossing cut on the siding. It was set out on the house track near the east end. This is a look at the front of the unit. The coupler looks a bit banged up and the plow is definitely bent up. That's a distance of close to 50 miles. So, it is unusual when a train passes through Broomfield without having to stop to meet another train! The train would have to hold at Broomfield for about two hours to wait for a southbound to come to Broomfield. Once in the clear, the rail train will drop new welded rail along the tracks at milepost 17, about two miles (rail) north of Broomfield. The Longmont Switch has dropped off its cars and is now returning as light power north back toward Boulder. There, it will switch a recycling plant before returning north to Longmont. Typically there isn't a train actually on the Lafayette Industrial Lead. Burns Junction is the location where the C&S main and the CB&Q main diverged and took their own routes to Longmont. Once there, the crew will drop off the five bulkhead flats and leave them for the Longmont Turn to pick up later that afternoon.
