The siding of Broomfield is the only siding between Denver and Longs Peak (just north of Longmont) that is long enough to support a meet between most trains on the Front Range Sub. That's a distance of close to 50 miles. So, it is unusual when a train passes through Broomfield without having to stop to meet another train! However, such was the case on this afternoon as the HLAUDEN went through Broomfield at track speed.

This rail train is sporting some nice power as the train holds just short of Nickel Street in Broomfield. The train would have to hold at Broomfield for about two hours to wait for a southbound to come to Broomfield. Once in the clear, the rail train will drop new welded rail along the tracks at milepost 17, about two miles (rail) north of Broomfield.

This is not an uncommon view to find here on my website...with one notable exception! Typically there isn't a train actually on the Lafayette Industrial Lead. Burns Junction is the location where the C&S main and the CB&Q main diverged and took their own routes to Longmont. Today, the old CB&Q main on the right only runs as far as Lafayette and only serves a few industries along the line.

BNSF's Longmont Switch (posing as the Buck Local) runs from the main track in Broomfield up the spur branch to Lafayette. Typically, this local runs at night. However, due to maintenance on the north end of the main track, the local ran in daylight on this Thursday afternoon! Here, the local is back across US-287 while traffic patiently waits.
