CP 7020, painted in a military tribute scheme, rests in the siding at Hogan's Alley with the Denver skyline offering a nice backdrop in the distance. CP 7020 is an SD70ACu, and in fact started life as an SD90MAC! Progress Rail rebuilt 60 of them for Canadian Pacific (and 100 for UP SD9043MACs for Norfolk Southern). The rebuilt unit was re-designated as an SD70ACu.

Staring at the nose of CP 7020, tied down in the siding at Hogan's Alley in Denver. The unit is painted in Army Green in tribute to the military. The train is waiting for a fresh crew to take the train south on the Joint Line.

A look at the cab of the army-green SD70ACu on Canadian Pacific (now CPKC's) roster. The unit was unveiled just over four years ago in tribute to the military. The ribbon has a clever design that represents both Canada and the United States.

In 2019, Canadian Pacific painted five units in military-inspired paint schemes in tribute to the military. The units were unveiled on Remembrance Day (Canada's version of Veterans Day in the US). CP 7020 is one of the five units, and happened to be leading a southbound grain train through Denver on January 8, 2024.

CP 7020, one of five military tribute units on CP's roster, happened to lead a California-bound grain train through Denver. The train is tied down here on the siding in "Hogan's Alley", awaiting for a recrew. The grain train originated in Sweetwater, MT and is destined for Modesto, CA.

UP 8200 is stopped short of the signal at "37 block". This is the signal that protects the north departure from North Yard toward either the Moffat or the Belt Line. In this case, UP 8200 is waiting for a signal to head on to the Belt Line and out to Hazeltine where it will pick up a string of empty auto racks. UP 1980 is working on switching cars in the storage yard.

UP's intermodal yard in Denver is right next to their 36th Street Yard. A crew works to unload some containers off a train as a baretable (empty well cars) train arrives, led by a BNSF C44-9W. Whether these well cars will be used for containers, or simply put in storage, remains to be seen.

UP has three separate tracks in their 36th Street Yard in Denver that are currently being used for storage of power. Most of the units stored are SD70Ms and C44-9Ws. There has been a lot of development in the area as new buildings slowly grow up toward the sky.

Yard Shots Rocky Mountaineer
Seeing as how it is currently the "off season" for the Rocky Mountaineer, it makes sense that maintenance activities would be taking place. Indeed, the truck from one of the passengers cars has been removed from the car itself. Hydraulic jacks have been used on either side of the passenger car to keep the car elevated while the truck is removed.

Amongst the power being stored in UP's 36th Street Yard was this gem of a C44-9W! UP 9754 practically looks as though is rolled out of the paint shop. Unfortunate that it is currently stuck in storage, along with many other C44-9Ws and SD70Ms.

The cars on the left side of the shot here in UP's 36th Street Yard are likely set up for locals that run north and east. The tank cars are likely being stored at the moment, and the UP power is definitely being stored.
