For the 20 minutes leading up to the shot, the skies behind me were crystal clear with great sunlight shining down. Then, two minutes before the train showed up, of course, a huge cloud came in a killed the lighting. Oh well! The train in the shot is an empty ballast train, headed back to Wyoming for re-loading. A westbound coal empty wraps through the S-Curves at the base of Coal Creek on its journey west. The east end of Leyden is directly above the flag on the lead unit. You can see the tower that is near the west end of Leyden on the left side of the picture. And, in the distance, note the Cherokee Power Plant, which receives coal from Union Pacific.
