The train departed North Yard just after 9:30am and is set to run all the way to Helper today. In the background, you can see a handful of gondolas sitting on the siding at Eisele (Clay), dropped off by a single AC4400CW yesterday. I really like the look of the boxy dynamic break intakes and, of course, the class spartan cab. It is good to see that UP has rebuilt (or is rebuilding) its GP60 fleet - designating them as GP60Es - so they will hopefully be in service for years to come. As the local approached the highway, circuitry in the track detected the train (similar to a regular grade crossing) and turned the stoplight red for traffic. A stoplight facing the tracks turns from red to green. You can see the brakeman (yellow vest, left side) hanging on to the last covered hopper. The weather condition were deteriorating rapidly with the first few snow flakes just starting to fall. The Denver/Roper trains lately are led by the kind of AC power you see on most coal trains.
