Like its ES44C4 ancestor, this unit is an A1A-A1A unit, with only the outside axles on either truck being powered. This is a specification that BNSF is absolutely in love with. The train is just west of Leyden, running parallel to CO-72 on the far side of the tracks and the neighborhood of Leyden Rock on this side of the tracks. Most of their trains have had a trio of units on the point with anywhere from zero to two DPUs on the back. There certainly are exceptions depending on the specific train, but more often than not, this has been the pattern. They've also been keeping their trains relatively short...under about 60 cars...allowing them to maintain track speed. Here, a Provo-Denver is at track speed as it passes through a snowy Leyden. In the last 15 years, BNSF has purchased GE's at a rate of almost 3-to-1. So it is far more common to catch a GE leader on BNSF trains than EMD.
