The neighborhoods of Leyden Rock and Leyden Ranch, which started construction in 2013, are nearing completion behind the train. The land this neighborhood is built on was annexed by the city of Arvada shortly before construction started. Now, over 1,500 homes exist near the Moffat Tunnel Sub. BNSF manifest are now the only manifests that use the former Grande between Denver and Salt Lake. UP's manifest traffic between the two cities now entirely goes via the Overland Route in Wyoming. If you are unfamiliar with yellow boards like this one, they are an indication to trains that there is a speed restriction in place. Typically, these speed restrictions are expected to be in place for days or even weeks if MOW takes the time to put up the boards. In this case, this is a 40 MPH speed restriction. When the railroad was first built, back in the Denver and Salt lake days, Rocky was actually named Arena. The name was changed after Rio Grande acquired the D&SL. Third up in the head end consist is a visitor from the south! A Ferromex ES44AC helps the three BNSF units on the journey to Denver. You can clearly see the back end of the train, still being pulled up from Rocky, on the north side of Big Ten. These four units had a short stay in Denver as they actually led the Provo-Denver east in to town yesterday morning. Now, they had back to Utah. Several days of the week find only a single UP train running (MNYGJ/MGJNY). Sundays have no regularly scheduled UP trains at all. The MGJNY is just coming out of Tunnel 2 toward a clear signal at the west switch of Plain. Note the SD40-2 that is last in the consist. This unit is most likely due for a 92-day inspection. That means it still has a long way to go as it'll likely have to go to North Platte, NE to receive said inspection, thanks to the closing of Burnham in Denver. Those hoppers have been sitting there alongside the main for nearly 50 years, serving as a wind break. This morning, An SD70ACe and an NS AC4400CW lead four other UP GEs west around the curve.
