A trio of C44-9Ws, two of which are still wearing the original Heritage scheme, lead an eastbound Provo-Lincoln between Rocky and Leyden. These Heritage C44-9Ws are sometimes referred to as "Goat Boats". The "Goat" is a reference to the scheme resembling Great Northern's scheme (which used a Goat in their logo). The "Boat" is a reference to GE's traditionally being referred to as "U-Boats" as GE's models once (primarily) because with the letter "U". May has brought above average rainfall to the Denver area, which in turn has really greened up the fields. The Zephyr has three Amtrak California Comet cars in tow. As the name suggests, it scoops up ballast, washes it, and lays it back down. Cleaning the ballast and removing oil and soot and dirt from it actually does help to extend it life. After Dotsero, the train will enter in to Glenwood Canyon before making a 15 minute station stop at Glenwood Springs and then continue west on its journey.
