The train is crossing underneath of the RTD W-Line. This is the Light Rail line that runs from Denver Union Station out to the Jefferson County Courthouse. Main 1 is off to the left. The other tracks in the shots are BNSF-owned and are not CTC here. They are yard tracks at the south end of Rennicks Yard. The ethanol train came to Colorado across the KP and is headed for NA Jct southeast of Pueblo. The sun is just barely cresting the horizon to the east. The train came off the Belt Industrial Lead, running through North Yard on Track 1. It is now leaving the yard and entering Main 2 down to Propsect Jct where it will head south. The paint is looking very clean and sharp on the unit. A very quick way to identify this as a unit with AC traction motors is to look on the cab. The lightning bolt beneath the number indicates this is an AC unit. This particular unit went west of the Moffat a few days ago as DPU on the tail end of a loaded coal train headed for Valmy, NV. The train is currently stopped in the siding at Rocky. The train has no crew at the moment. A crew will show up to take the train in to Denver, but it could be anywhere from 4 to 24 hours before the crew actually appears. While no eastern railroad is particularly common in Colorado, CSX seems to be exceptionally rare in the Centennial State. I caught this exact same CSX unit on the point of this same train set about two weeks earlier, on January 12th. On this partly cloudy morning, the train has clear signals to Bypass 2 in Denver.
