Kansas City Southern was one of the creators of and stock holder in the railroad. In 2005, KCS bought out its partners and took full control of the railroad. The name was changed to Kansas City Southern de Mexico, a subsidiary of Kansas City Southern. The subsidiary had its own fleet in the Retro Belle scheme, but with "de Mexico" printed on the unit. Granted, Kansas City Southern units don't make it to Colorado particularly often, but when they do, they are great to see. With the merger of CP and KCS, creating CPKC, both the Canadian Pacific and KCS paint schemes will be replaced by a new scheme. The train is slowing for the grade crossing at MP 29.99 (County Road 22). A previous train reported that the main lights and gates were working, but the lights on one of the gates were broken off and hanging down. Consequently, an "XH" order was placed on the crossing. When the southbound it was meeting showed up, the train pulled in to the siding. However, nobody informed the crew that the southbound is a local that is blocking the north end of the siding, preventing the coal empty from leaving!
