Train use the Pueblo Sub to La Juanta and then the Boise City Sub to Dalhart, TX. Northbound empties return from Dalhart on the Twin Peaks Sub and the Spanish Peaks Sub via Trinidad. Here, the BNSF track is the western track, leading to the BNSF yard in Pueblo. Likewise, the UP track is the eastern track, leading to their yard. BNSF's Denver to Kansas City (HDENKCK) has an elephant-style lash-up (including a Warbonnet) as the train enter the single track CTC. BNSF's Front Range Dispatcher handles the Casper Sub (which this train just came from) and the Front Range Sub (which this train is headed toward). The train leaves the authority of the Front Range Dispatcher for a thirty mile stretch between Bridger Junction and Wendover when it borrows the Canyon Sub. This is BNSF's daily HLAUDEN (Laurel, MT to Denver, CO), but a bit further north than I usually see it. The train has just left the Casper Subdivision at Bridger Junction and is now on the Canyon Subdivision. A storage and maintenance facility is located here off of Main Three over to the left. Growing up in Colorado, it is somewhat unusual to be able to get a 7,000+ foot long coal train captured in a single frame! Not long ago, there were two main tracks at this location. It didn't take long for a third main track to be put in to accommodate traffic. No sooner had the third track been put it, that a fourth main track was laid down! This roughly 25-mile stretch of four main tracks is the longest such stretch of non-passenger track in the country. In this shot, a UP coal empty proceeds west in the distance on Main Two, a BNSF coal load heads east on Main Four, and a clear signal on Main Three indicates another westbound is not far away. It is all because of Nickel Street, which connects two parts of Broomfield together. Here, a Brownville, TX to Laurel, MT manifest has the crossing cut on the main track on the left and the Tacoma, WA to Denver, CO Q-train has the crossing cut on the siding. The train, right around 6,000 feet long, won't fit in the siding without blocking the grade crossing. In this shot, the train was pulling to the east end (as the Ski Train was getting close). In the distance, a mere 7,100 feet away, you can see the green signal at the east end of Tonville. The local will have clear signals all the way to Hudson.
