An ES44DC and an SD70ACe bring up the tail end of a loaded copper train that is headed for Provo, UT. This is one of those unusual BNSF train that will occasionally pop up on the Moffat. The original "Heritage" scheme is worn by the center C44-9W. A fan favorite of many railfans to this day! Leading is a C44-9W with the "Heritage 2" scheme, which replaced the Heritage scheme only after a year or two. And third up is the so called "New Image" scheme. First unveiled in 2005, this scheme came out when Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad was reorganized as simply BNSF Railway. Such is the case on this snowy afternoon when BNSF ran a "copper train" west. The train is a unit train of open top gondolas, seen here between Leyden and Rocky. The City of Arvada annexed some land on the south side of the rails in order for the community of Leyden Rock to be built. Since the creation of new roads in the neighborhood, it allows for perspectives in Barbara's Gulch that were previously extremely difficult to get to. Since then, enough snow has fallen that the snowpack is now up to 150% of average! With all that snow in the high country, roads have seens a lot of delays or outright closures. In order to get crews to and from trains in the Colorado high country, UP uses a "Snow Bus". This is typically a caboose sandwiched by two units. Soon, the Grand Junction based crew will arrive in Denver and begin their rest period before taking a westbound manifest back home to Grand Junction. After the merger frenzy of the 1990s, paint schemes became a jumbled grab bag of whose-was-who. It has finally been long enough...twenty years later...that it becoming more and more common to see trains in which all engines wear the same scheme. In other words, the sun is always behind the train. With F40PH 406 on the tail end of the Winter Park Express, however, this going away shot at Rollins in morning sunlight looks pretty darn nice.
