The DRGW Heritage Unit (UP 1989) and the CNW Heritage Unit (UP 1995) look pretty good lashed up together. Rumor has it that one of UP's Board Members was a fan (or perhaps even worked for) the CNW, which is likely why this is the second heritage unit chosen for the trip.

An eastbound BNSF manifest holding the mainline a Tabernash necessitated UP's Board of Directors Special to run through the siding. Here, the special is approaching the west end of the siding.

Of all the units that I may have guessed I'd shoot crossing over this old Grande bridge of Indiana Avenue, a Canadian National C40-8M cowl unit was *not* one of the ones that would have come to mind! Yet, here it is, the sixth unit on an eastbound BNSF manifest.

Very turbulent weather across Colorado, including (unfortunately) a deadly tornado in the Greeley area, led to some interesting cloud patterns. A former Chicago & North Western AC4400CW (ex-CNW 8804) leads a westbound coal empty west of Leyden.

Perhaps the reason Chicago and North Western chose green and yellow as their colors is due to the location of their tracks: the midwest. The colors remind me of a corn and wheat fields...just perfect!

In this shot of UP 1995, the CNW Heritage Unit, the flash highlights the reflective decals. I particularly think the green decals make this unit particularly attractive after dark.

Santa Fe and Canadian National were the only two railroads to purchase SD75I's. Here, one of the CN units sits between two BNSF's Dash-9's in Denver.

The Valmont Coal train is stopped in Boulder on the Front Range Sub while the conductor walks the train. The coal is provided to the Valmont power plant in Boulder by Union Pacific. However, BNSF provides the crew (and power) to get the train to Boulder from Denver. On this day, the power was CN 2680 and NS 9320, both C44-9CW's. Both are rare visitors to Colorado!

A broken air hose has caused this train to go into emergency just short of South Main Street in Springville, UT. Although the train is not moving, the crossing signals are still warning people that a train is near.
