Since Elderado Canyon near Tunnel 8, the tracks have (off and on) been following South Boulder Creek, located to the right of the tracks in the frame. In the Rio Grande days, the west switch of Cliff was interesting as it was a "Y" switch. There was a bit of a diverging both for the main and the siding. The train is crossing Simms Street in Arvada, headed for BNSF's 31st Street Yard. BNSF took over the MRL on January 1, 2024. Since then, MRL units have started to roam the BNSF system. In 2022, BNSF agreed to pay MRL $2 billion to terminate the lease early. The lease was originally created for 60 years, set to expire in 2047. With BNSF taking over the MRL, the MRL power (now owned by BNSF) left Montana to explore the BNSF system. MRL 4303 happened to be the rear DPU on BNSF's Provo-Denver this afternoon. One of the 29 SD70ACes happened to be the trailing DPU unit on BNSF's Provo-Denver manifest on this July afternoon. Eventually, no doubt, the MRL units will be painted orange. BNSF's manifest typically have three units on the head end, but today, there are four units leading the train in to Denver. The first, of course, being a visitor from the north. At this point, however, Canadian Pacific no longer exists. The merger with Kansas City Southern has been official for a little over a year, and the new railroad is now CPKC. The train, which has a good looking Warbonnet on the head end, is headed for Provo, UT. Once there, the power will eventually return back to Denver, likely on the Provo-Denver. BNSF 766, the third unit on the Denver-Provo, is a great example. Granted this unit is actually lettered for BNSF, which means it happened after the merger in 1995, Warbonnets being lettered with BNSF only happened briefly after the merger. Note the incredibly large radiator housing on the back of the second unit. These days, it is pretty common for the BNSF manifests on the Moffat to run with New Image, 3x2 power.
