A southbound BNSF coal load slowly climbs the grade on Main 1 as a northbound military train sits stopped on Main 2. The military train departed Fort Carson a few hours earlier, and unfortunately tripped a dragging equipment detector. The conductor is currently walking the train to find the culprit.

An ES44AC and an SD70ACe lead this coal train south on Main 1, just south of Greenland. As we get deeper in to fall and closer to winter, the landscape loses more and more color, turning to a relatively flat yellow-brown color.

A trio of units serve as the rear DPU on this southbound coal load. The train is crossing over Spruce Mountain Road and West Fox Farm Road as it continues south toward Greenland. Spruce Mountain Road (on the left) is the road that will take cars further south to Palmer Lake.

There is a typical sea of orange at BNSF's Engine House in Denver as Sunday morning commuters on RTD's N-Line to Thornton sail by on a bridge. The commuter train is nearing the end of its southbound journey at Denver Union Station.

As time marches onward, fewer and fewer "green and cream" units remain on BNSF's roster as repaints continue. However, you can still find them here and there. BNSF 9709 is one such example, sitting near the engine house in Denver.

Even though it is Sunday morning, switching at BNSF's 31st Street Yard in Denver continues at both the north and south end, just as it does 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

It is a pretty rare sight to find BNSF orange on UP's Greeley Sub! In 2023, it seems that most lines, regardless of the owner, have at least one other railroad with trackage rights on their line. UP's Greeley Sub between Denver and Cheyenne is not one of those lines. UP is the owner and no other railroad has trackage rights. So these BNSF units must just be power sharing units on this northbound military train.

Just north of the siding of Nunn, we have an extremely unique northbound manifest on the Greeley Sub. A loaded military train, which originated at Fort Carson near Colorado Springs, is led by a pair of BNSF ES44C4s and an UP AC4400CW.

A week ago, I got a shot of BNSF 6705 sitting right here near the Vesta plant in Brighton. A week later, and sister unit BNSF 8102 has joined 6705! Not sure why these units are sitting here along the Greeley Sub. They must be power share units as BNSF has no trackage rights on the Greeley Sub.

A northbound BNSF manifest is tied down on Main 3 at Englewood. It would seem that there was no room in the yard at Denver when the train got to this point, so it was tied down. Once room in the yard opens up, no doubt a crew will retrieve the train and bring it the rest of the way in.
